Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease. Millions of people need an effective treatment. With the aging of the population, the demand for traditional and non-traditional treatment will continue to grow. According to published studies, oral collagen hydrolysates have been shown to be intestinal absorption and accumulation in cartilage. Intake of collagen hydrolysate stimulated chondrocytes to synthesize extracellular matrix macromolecules (P < 0.05). These findings suggest mechanisms that may contribute to patients with joint disorders such as OA. Four open label and three double-blind studies were identified and reviewed; although many of these studies did not provide key information - such as statistically significant findings - they showed that collagen hydrolysates were safe and provided some measures for pain and functional improvement in some men and women with osteoarthritis or other diseases of arthritis. Consumption
1 sachet a day, can be taken anytime, before or after meal. Dissolve in 250 ml of warm water (30°C - 40°C).
Recommendation
Try for 1 month. If there is no positive progress, you may stop taking and seek medical advice.
If positive progress is observed, you may continue for a 3 to 12 months course, depending on individual condition.
Upon attaining satisfactory results, may take 1/2 sachet regularly for maintenance purposes.
Recovery is on progressive basis. An X-ray or MRI is good for reference.
Gentle Reminder
Reduce intake of spicy, fried or roasted foods.
Rest more.
Drink more water i.e. 2000-2500 ml per day to facilitate metabolism.
If wheelchair-bound but still able to stand up and move about, muscle-strengthening activity is required (muscle and tendon may be wasted due to long-term use of wheelchair).
Healing Reaction
May occur to certain people within the first 2 weeks. The reactions are normal and will disappear gradually, and one will feel more relieved thereafter.
Feeling tired or sleepy.
Itchiness in joints.
High level of uric acid can lead to inflammation, causing more pain especially in the first week if certain foods are not avoided and water intake is inadequate.
Important Note
Not suitable to take this supplement if:
Pregnant.
Infants and young children.
Severe renal dysfunction i.e. undergoing renal dialysis.
